Sixth Annual Leo Holmsten Human Life Award Banquet
On Tuesday evening, September 17, 2002, more than 200 people were at Mario’s Via Abruzzi to recognize the 2002 Award recipient. Dr. William Morehouse’s co-workers, past and present, were joined by patients and numerous people from the community. Almost all present had personal experience with the power of Dr. Morehouse’s pro-life commitment.
The Leo Holmsten Human Life Committee, a committee of Rochester Area Right to Life Committee, Inc. Education Fund, was joined by 15 area pro-life groups in choosing Dr. Morehouse for this award. Co-sponsors were Brighton Residents against Violence (BRAVE), Birthright of Rochester, CompassCare Pregnancy Services (CPS), Feminists for Life of New York (FFL), Greater Rochester Association of Evangelicals (G.R.A.E.) His Branches, Problem Pregnancy Help Center, Project Rachel, Pro-life Planning Committee, Roberts Wesleyan College, Roman Catholic Diocese of Rochester, St. Luke Medical Association, St. Thomas More Lawyers Guild, Salvation Army.
Award recipients are nominated and elected by the previous winners, LHHL committee members and a representative of each co-sponsoring group. The Award Criteria are that recipients emulate Dr. Holmsten as they
*Work to build respect for the sanctity of innocent, human life;
*Use skills, training and talents in available opportunities,
*Honor the Judeo-Christian ethic.
Pre-dinner music was provided by the Saelig Trio. Program music was provided by an ensemble convened by Joel Morehouse. A cappella the group sang and led attendees in singing God Bless America and Amazing Grace. During the program they sang My Jesus as Thou Wilt.
